I figured that vehicles count for style as well, so why not start a thread where we an talk about Gothic style as it applies to things we ride or drive?

There are plenty of really cool, Gothic-looking motorcycles out there, but I think this one has them all beat...and it was built over 70 years ago.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
from TheCoolHunter.com:
1934 BMZ R7
Think back 70 or 75 years to a time when design began to break away from the traditional and elaborate rationalism that ensued for hundreds of years. As the styles of Art Nouveau, Art Deco, Streamline and Zigzag Moderne emerged after the Industrial Revolution, designers as well as consumers fully embraced the Age of the Machine. Shiny chrome surfaces lay across curving forms or over expansive horizontal planes and glorified a dynamic new world on the move.
And suddenly, design was muted as World War II approached. Inspiration was buried away, along with some innovative and visually stunning design work. Skip ahead to 2005 when some curious members of BMW Classic opened a box and found the R7 bike 75 assembled - although not in shining condition. The engine was corroded, the metalwork was in dire shape, the battery was unusable, but the opportunity for restoration could not be ignored.
Posted Image
Various specialists at the BMW workshop discovered the original design drawings in the archive collections and conjured up the ghosts from Streamline Moderne’s past. Missing parts were sourced, others were rebuilt, the chrome was polished and the frame was painted black. And the final test, retuning the 1934 BMW motorcycle to the street, proved to be worth the wait nearly three quarters of a century later.
This might not actually classify as a motocycle because it has never been actually made yet, but if I was to every save up enough with my pennies and nickels, I would love to see an actual model of the Fenrir Prototype from Advent children.
I would honestly paid out the money to have a running model of that motorcycle on the streets. I remember reading an article about someone wanting the same thing, but I cannot remember if it was done or not. I might go look into that after this post. But anyway, here it is.
And I was kinda lucky. A couple of my friends and I decided to make a 3D model. [Edit] I'm not going to put it on here because it was kinda messing with my computer and I didn't want it messing anyone elses. But you can still view it you go here. http://fc20.devianta...y_AliasNull.gif
But yeah, I have a couple of cars and bikes that I will posting on here when I can find them. There somewhere in the many folders of my computer.
That looks like the motorcycle used in the last Batman movie
And it's a real, working bike.
You know, I almost forget about that bike and it really does. I wonder which one of the models from that bike came first. I did a little searching for the two of them and found out a reasonable origin of the bike.
I could be wrong and thinking so, but the original design could have been from Akira.
Thanks Cybele and what do you think?
The History Channel (or was it Discovery?) ran a documentary on Batman tech before the last movie came out. I think you can find it here.
In it, they went into a huge amount of detail about the Batcycle and the Batmobile. I can't remember the details, but I do remember that the rider has to lay down on the Batcycle in order to drive it. It also affects the steering. Maybe Heretic remembers...
Well, until we get his insight on subject, figured I would one of my favorite cars to go into production. Even though its not out yet, I'm keeping a watchful eye on the 2010 model of the Ford Mustang.
I wuold love to have paint job...o_o -drool.-
I am so heavy laced and consumed by this car, I go nuts seeing any verison of this car on the street. Its sad. I shouldn't be like that I know it but it so freaking awesome. Ford even put together its own tiny website for the upcoming Mustang and it impresses me. If you wanna check it out, the link is below. I'm going to scan the web for more info...
Only 2 years to go :laugh:
I want a bike that's
failing that just a dark, blood red
I happen to like the older vehicles because of the style and personality built into each one. Take, for example, the 1950 Rolls-Royce Silver Wraith:
Posted Image
With apologies to Winter, and those who view futuristic and high-tech-looking cars and motorcycles as examples of modern "Gothic" styling, I find it extremely difficult to find a modern car that says "Gothic" to me. Sure, anything painted black can be said to be "Gothic", but the lines? the styling? Modern vehicles have had the character rounded and streamlined out of them. No one in this day and age produces an automobile with that wonderful mix of the sinister and the stylish.
I'm with Heretic on this one. My dream car is the classic style Bently. These are just the kind of cars I would imagine Vincent Price or Bela Lugosi would drive.
Everyone has their taste. Me, being youthful would disagree. However, I do agree that the older models of cars seems more suitable for the Gothic style after seeing JC and Heretic pictures.
No, I haven't watched it but I will look into it later. I have basically nothing to do today, so I'm open for ideas and suggestions. What about you? Do you have any particular transportation vehicles that catches your eye?
A couple of weeks ago, a buddy of mine was telling me about a new motorcycle concept created by Polaris industries' Victory line of motorcycles. What he didn't tell me was just how amazingly cool this thing really was:
The interesting thing is, I gave some articles to him a couple of years ago of a similar motorcycle:
Somehow, I think there may be a connection between this bike and the fact that he works for Victory Motorcycles in their R&D division...
I ride a 50cc scooter. I'm so un-goth :P
At least it isn't pink. I'm considering making the time to make faux wood panels for it, and play with the idea of steampunkery.
I just ran across a motorcycle that might fit this sort of bill. Take the engine from a Subaru Impreza WRX, slap it into a motorcycle, add some flywheels and rivets, and you get this little baby:
RogueMoto KickBoxer
Posted Image
Posted Image
"...the RogueMoto KickBoxer is a concept from designer Ian McElroy, and uses Subaru’s rally-bred WRX motor for propulsion. The engine is turbocharged for even more grunt, and feeds into a Baker Torquebox—one of the few motorcycle gearboxes able to handle sports car levels of power..."
Absolutely INSANE.
Getting back to retro, I just spotted the perfect motorcycle for the gentleman about town. I swear, this WILL be mine one day. It just oozes style and sophistication:
Now if I could only track down some information about who built it...
