What role Miss America serves is not clear to me, but I'm more than confident that she does not represent the ideals of the changing American face.
While it pisses me off that Perez Hilton represents Gay America he is also the one that people [unfortunately] hear and see.

I feel the same way every time some media outlet sticks a camera in Rev. Al Sharpton's face:

Whenever the opinion of any minority group is sought on some national point of discussion, the media always looks for clowns like this first. Not a very subtle way of undermining dissent from mainstream ideology, is it?

Sharpton may, once in a while, have a worth-while message to share, but I tune him out simply because he's a loud-mouth media whore.

Yes, I'm a thick, average looking, smart lesbian, but really do we?
When a person, such as Ms. Prejean, expresses an opinion that indicates someone else is lesser, especially as the law is applied, s/he should face the consequences of such a statement.
People should feel free to say stupid sh1t, but when it hits them in the face later, don't come crying to me. Particularly on this topic where MY ACTUAL LIFE, not just a fleeting firing of brain chemicals called an opinion, is at stake.

Based on the recent television ratings (3.5 million viewers for the 2010 pageant, versus 26.7 million viewers in 1991), more and more people think we don't.

This is the thing people forget when they decide that they can exercise their Constitutional right to free speech: negative reaction to what a person has to say is also protected free speech. The right to express an opinion does not mean that people have to like or tolerate what you have to say. Prejean wasn't being "persecuted" for her personal values; most people simply had nothing but scorn for her brand of narrow-minded bigotry.

Again, I have to point out the fact that this is yet another arbitrary line drawn by society. 50 years ago, it was 'unnatural' for African Americans to marry European Americans. 50 years before that, it was 'unnatural' for Europeans to marry Native Americans. 50 years before that, it was 'unnatural' for the aristocracy to marry commoners. You see where I'm going here? The concept of what is or isn't 'natural' is a matter of personal opinion, not scientific fact or even defensible logic.

What 'majority' are you referring to here? Many countries allow gay marriage; at least one has an openly gay Prime Minister. Social trends around the world have all moved in the direction of greater acceptance for gay people.

Wait a minute...is your problem with homosexuality in particular or sexuality in general?
By the way, I happen to have two children, ages 10 and 13. When they have seen public displays of affection, whether it's a mother holding her baby, two teenagers kissing on a park bench, or two men holding hand, my wife and I have answered any questions they might have had about what they were seeing, and moved on. As a parent, I can tell you that this is all you really can do. Public displays of affection among people who care about each other is not only common but socially acceptable. Unless you plan to move to some remote mountain or island, good luck trying to shield your children from ever seeing people engaged in such behavior.

And you're welcome to it. Just don't look for support for such a narrow and prejudiced view of the world around here. As we've said in the past, this is an open and accepting forum; we take a dim view of who espouse biased or derogatory viewpoints.

Sorry. But my humble opinion is the same. I'm a homophobe and you are tolerant to them we are discussing the gay issue freely and equally this is what democracy really is. Well, I'm not a great expert on Holy Writ but I remember well the extract: "And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet. And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient." [Romans 1 : 27-28] I'll never say gay is ok. Sorry again.
