Hi.

I haven't been on My Goth for AGES. sorry! *hugs the forum*

Anyway, I have been pondering this:

My mind, psyche etc is Music Dependant, completely and totally Music Dependant! I mean I will listen to the same song over and over for DAYS (pretty much) cause if feels good, or it has a great beat or good lyrics, I have even taken to printing out the lyrics of some songs (at work, bad me) so I can sing them to myself when I need them. I will listen to almost ANYTHING! even DANCE! provided it has a good beat or lyrics I connect with. My MP3 player broke and my laptop crashed (both last year) and I have been going NUTS! hence the printing out lyrics so I can sing them to myself!

So yeah my question to the forum is this:

My music dependency; is it a Goth trait? are there Music dependant "normals" out there? or am I just fucking weird?

I don't really think it's a trait.
At least it isn't for me.
But, I do have music that I listen to when I'm happy, depressed, angry, need something easy to sing along with, (ie, that I know all the words to), or whatever. I even have playlists that I've tailored especially for when I'm out driving, trying to relax to get to sleep, or in my kitchen cooking with my kids. And those can change depending on my mood, too.
Sometimes, I just want quiet.
And other times, I'll humor my boys because they want to share whatever it is they're into at the moment. There's been more than one band they've introduced me to.

Right now, most of what I've been listening to is Collide and Wolfsheim because I can dance to them, with a few other bands mixed in.

I don't think that you're weird, Butterfly.
I know someone who is totally obsessed with music.
It's the soundtrack of his life. ;)
Give me what I want, and I'll go away...

Sounds familiar Butterfly  I'm surgically attached to my iPod; and despite half ruined hearing I won't even go up to the shops without it.

Also have been guilty of song obsessions. No idea if any of it's a Goth trait though

I believe it is just a part of our lives now. We were raised listening to music in the background of movies and while in the car, now we have the option of keeping it with us everywhere and essentially providing a soundtrack to our lives.

Music Dependency? I don't think it's a kind of danger. Issues like Coputer Dependency or Music Dependency sounds like snobbish rants and myths to me.

Eh, it's a fair enough question. Don't see any snobbery, just curiosity.

However, I think it's become a widespread trait. People from all walks are becoming attached to music in ways that were less common before.
"If Edison had a needle to find in a haystack, he would proceed at once with the diligence of the bee to examine straw after straw until he found the object of his search. I was a sorry witness of such doings, knowing that a little theory and calculation would have saved him ninety per cent of his labor."

Music is also more accessible now with the internet these days. I know I've found tons of new music from topics on this very site that I'd never heard of, but love to listen to.
I've always had a repulsive need to be something more than human.

Mp3 and Flash players are widespread now. Music is easier to listen now.
